Choosing the best conservatory builders and installers: Key questions to ask

Choosing the best Conservatory Supplier. Adding a conservatory to your home is an exciting project. It can increase your living space, flood your home with natural light, and boost your property’s value.

But before you start dreaming of sunny afternoons in your new conservatory, you need to find the right conservatory installer for the job. Choosing a reputable conservatory builder is crucial for ensuring your investment pays off in the long run.

To help you make the right choice, we’ve put together some tips and key questions to ask before hiring a conservatory company.

Do your research

The first step in finding the right conservatory builder is to focus on local professionals. A quick online search for “conservatory builders near me”  or “local conservatory installers” will give you a good starting point. Companies in your local area are easier to reach and more likely to have experience working with local planning authorities and regulations.

Also, look for builders with good reviews and testimonials. Check independent review sites and ask neighbours or friends for recommendations if they’ve recently had a conservatory installed. A strong reputation in your local area is a good indicator that you’re in safe hands.

PS – we’ve got dozens of 5-star reviews for our work… here’s just one of them:

“The quality is fantastic! Great attention to detail with the result that I would have no hesitance in recommending them to anyone having work done on their house or business.”

Check credentials and qualifications

Once you’ve narrowed down your list of potential builders, it’s time to dig a little deeper.

Always check that your chosen builder has the relevant qualifications and accreditations. For example, we are registered with organisations like CERTASS, which ensures compliance with building regulations and high-quality service.

Ask for references and view previous work

Before making any decisions, ask the builder to provide references from previous clients.

Any reputable conservatory installer should be more than happy to share these – check out our gallery here. Ask past customers about their experience working with the company. Did the work finish on time and within budget? Was the company easy to communicate with? How was the quality of the finished conservatory?

What’s included in the quote?

Before agreeing to any work, make sure you fully understand what’s included in the quote. Does it cover everything from the base work to the glazing and finishing touches? Or will you be left with unexpected costs halfway through the project?

Ask for a breakdown of the quote and ensure you’re clear on exactly what you’ll be paying for.

How long will the work take?

Ask your chosen installer how long the project will take from start to finish, including any preparation and planning stages.

Keep in mind that bad weather or unexpected delays can sometimes extend the timeline, so it’s good to have an open line of communication with your builder. A reputable company should be upfront about any potential challenges and work with you to complete the project as smoothly as possible.

What happens after installation?

Once your conservatory is installed, you’ll want to know who to contact if any issues arise.

Ask about their aftercare service—do they provide support if there are problems with the installation later on? Will they return to fix any issues that arise under warranty?

A good installer will stand by their work and offer aftercare support to ensure your conservatory remains in top condition for years to come.

Choose wisely for a stress-free conservatory build

By asking the right questions and doing your homework, you’ll find a professional installer who can bring your vision to life and leave you with a stunning new space to enjoy for years.

Iron Staining Disclaimer: Rust staining or Iron staining is a natural problem that can occur when specific individual stones within the product that have high iron content are exposed to the environment. This problem is often increased if the site is in an exposed or coastal region. It is not unusual for the problem to take a number of years to be exposed and there is no way of identifying if the aggregate is affected prior to application.

It is not possible to screen the iron content out of the product by using magnets as it is part of the chemical makeup of the aggregate. The aggregates affected by this problem are mostly flint or gravel based type products or aggregates that have usually been quarried from glacial or river deposits. Using Calcined flint aggregates will not eliminate this problem if the raw flint used already has high iron content.

Given that iron staining is a natural occurrence no guarantee can be given or liability accepted for areas affected by iron staining. Since 2016 The Home Improvement Project have only selected aggregates from quarries that have proven records of low iron content. Whilst iron staining can cosmetically spoil the appearance of the affected areas it has no detrimental effect on the render itself.
